These are:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e1) Stop the Engine from running, ‘Kill’.\u003cbr\u003e2) Disconnect the Battery from ALL electrical systems, ‘Isolate’.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ‘Engine Stop’ function is implemented by disconnecting power to the ECU or Ignition circuit forcing the engine to stop and electrical power generation by the alternator\/generator to cease.\u003cbr\u003eThe ‘Battery Isolation’ function is implemented by disconnecting the negative side of the vehicle’s battery from chassis\/ground, thereby disconnecting the battery from ALL of the car’s electrical systems.\u003cbr\u003eWhen activated, the Engine Stop function occurs a very short period of time before Battery Isolation. Alternator load dump protection is also built in so no additional components are needed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eUser operation\u003c\/strong\u003e\n\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll CARTEK Battery Isolators are operated using two switches: A dashboard mounted ‘Internal Switch’ allows the driver to turn the Battery Isolator ON and OFF. An ‘External Switch’ is for operation by safety personnel in an emergency situation. The Internal Switch can be used to turn the Battery Isolator ON and OFF, however the External Switch can only turn the Battery Isolator OFF. This is in accordance with Motorsport UK safety regulations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll CARTEK Battery Isolators also shut down automatically if a fault is detected such as short-circuit, over-current, over-temperature or broken cable connections. If this happens then the LED on the Battery Isolator unit, and the CARTEK Internal Switch, will display a flash pattern to indicate the cause of the fault.
