The ECU sends a 5V, 128Hz PWM signal on the L terminal to command the alternator output voltage anywhere from 11V to 15.5V. Without a valid PWM signal the alternator defaults to approximately 13.7V. A standalone alternator control module or an aftermarket ECU with PWM alternator control output is required to command these alternators correctly.
