FuelTech ECU Australia, Which One Is Right For Your Build?

If you are building a serious performance or race car in Australia and want an ECU that combines engine management, a built-in touchscreen dashboard, data logging and drag racing features all in one unit, FuelTech is one of the standout options in the market. Built in Brazil and used by some of the quickest drag cars in the world, FuelTech ECUs are becoming increasingly popular in Australia for both street and dedicated race builds. This guide breaks down the range.

What Is FuelTech

FuelTech is a Brazilian manufacturer of high performance engine management systems used across drag racing, circuit racing, marine and powersports applications worldwide. What sets FuelTech apart from other ECU brands is the all-in-one approach. Every FuelTech ECU includes a built-in colour touchscreen dashboard, internal data logger, integrated boost controller, integrated gear controller and drag racing features as standard. There is no need to buy a separate dash, a separate boost controller or a separate data logging unit.

The FuelTech FT550

The FT550 is FuelTech's mid-range ECU and is built for engines up to 12 cylinders or 4 rotors. It features 14 programmable inputs and 24 outputs, a 4.3 inch colour touchscreen, sequential injection and ignition, closed loop O2 control, active traction control, integrated boost controller, built-in accelerometer and gyroscope, integrated GearController, PRO-Nitrous control, internal data logger and drag racing features including burnout mode, 2-step, 3-step, time-based launch and staging control. It uses AMP SuperSeal connectors with 52 pins, dual CAN bus ports and USB communication. The case is waterproof to IP67 rating. It features an onboard 7 bar MAP sensor making it suitable for high boost applications.

The FuelTech FT600

The FT600 is FuelTech's flagship ECU in the PowerFT range and steps up to 20 inputs and 32 outputs across dual 34 pin SuperSeal connectors. The housing is an extremely durable aluminium case rated to IP67 with an anti-glare 4.3 inch colour touchscreen, 10 LED shift lights with adjustable colour and intensity, and 4 side LED lights configurable for alerts or sensor status. It manages sequential injection and ignition on engines from 1 to 12 cylinders or up to 4 rotors and includes all of the FT550 features plus more advanced injection controls including individual cylinder trim and a full 32x32 cell 3D primary map. The internal data logger records up to 256 channels. Like all PowerFT ECUs it includes an onboard 7 bar MAP sensor, O2 closed loop, GearController, BoostController, active traction control and the full suite of drag racing features.

The FuelTech FT700

The FT700 is FuelTech's next generation ECU platform and the most advanced unit in the range. It uses the same dual 34 pin SuperSeal connectors as the FT600 meaning you can upgrade directly from an FT600 without replacing your wiring harness. The FT700 adds encrypted Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, the ability to connect up to 3 devices simultaneously for real-time tuning and telemetry from laptops, tablets or smartphones, 64GB of data storage, 20 configurable LED lights and significantly upgraded processing power. It is built for teams and builders who want the most capable and future-proof platform available.

Which FuelTech ECU Do I Need

For a modified street or track car needing full engine management with a built-in dash and drag racing features, the FT550 is the right starting point. For a serious drag car or race build requiring more inputs, outputs and advanced data logging, the FT600 is where to go. For a professional race program or a team wanting wireless tuning, telemetry and maximum capability, the FT700 is the top choice.
