Which Haltech ECU Do You Need?

This is the question we get asked most. Here is a straightforward breakdown based on what we see in our workshop every day.

The Elite 550 suits a basic 4 cylinder or rotary build where you need full fuel and ignition control without overcomplicating things. It is a single connector ECU and a solid starting point for most street and mild performance builds.

The Elite 750 adds knock control over the 550. Worth the step up if you are running a turbo or anything where detonation protection matters.

The Elite 1500 and Elite 2500 suit more serious builds. Two connectors, more inputs and outputs, DBW support, flex fuel, dual knock control. The 2500 is the pick for anything complex including rotaries, engines with variable cams or builds that need room to grow.

The Nexus S2 and S3 are the next generation of the Elite 1500 and 2500. Same great features plus improved processing and integrated wideband controllers. If you are starting a new build today these are worth considering over the Elite range.

The Nexus R3 and R5 combine ECU and PDM into one unit. These are for serious race and drag builds where you want clean wiring, integrated power distribution and full vehicle control from a single system. They are not entry level and they are not for everyone, but when the application suits them they are hard to beat.

The iC-7 dash, CAN keypads and PD16 PDM round out the ecosystem and all connect via CAN to any current Haltech ECU.

The Full Haltech Ecosystem, Wired Properly

Haltech's strength is CAN integration: ECU, PDM, wideband, dash and keypad all talk on one twisted pair. We wire these systems with M22759/32 Tefzel, M27500 shielded cable for triggers and CAN in noisy environments, Raychem DR25 sleeving and genuine Haltech plug and pin sets, which we also stock for DIY builders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy Haltech in Australia?

12Volt Motorsports stocks Haltech Elite and Nexus ECUs, PD16 PDMs, WB1 and WB2 widebands, iC-7 and uC-10 dashes and CAN keypads in Melbourne, ships Australia-wide, and installs and wires Haltech systems in house.

What is the difference between Haltech Elite and Nexus?

Elite is a dedicated ECU, wired through a custom harness and paired with separate relays or a PDM. Nexus is a vehicle control unit combining ECU and PDM functions in one box, cutting wiring complexity on new builds. Both integrate with Haltech CAN dashes, widebands and keypads.

Which Haltech ECU suits my engine?

Elite 550 and 750 suit simpler engines with fewer inputs and outputs. Elite 1500 suits most modern 4 and 6 cylinder performance builds. Elite 2500 adds more IO and features for advanced builds. Nexus suits new builds wanting integrated power distribution. Call us with your combo and we will match it.

What is the Haltech PD16?

A 16 output solid state power distribution module. It replaces relays and fuses with software controlled, current monitored outputs, and it is configured and controlled over CAN alongside the ECU.

Can 12Volt Motorsports install my Haltech?

Yes. We install and wire Haltech systems for race cars, drag cars, show cars and street performance builds in Melbourne. Contact us before buying if you need installation as well, and we will quote the whole job.

Do you build Haltech harnesses?

Yes. We build custom Haltech harnesses in house using M22759/32 Tefzel wire, DR25 and genuine Haltech plug and pin sets, and we stock those sets for DIY builders.

Bosch or NTK wideband for my Haltech?

Bosch suits most pump fuel and E85 applications. NTK handles leaded race fuels better. Both WB1 and WB2 kits connect to the ECU over CAN.

Do you ship Haltech Australia-wide?

Yes. We ship to Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Hobart, Darwin and everywhere in between, usually same or next business day.
