M22759/32 and Spec 55, Same Wire, Two Names
M22759/32 is the military specification. Spec 55 is the TE Raychem trade name, and their 55A0111 part series is made to that same specification. In Australian motorsport the two names are used interchangeably, the way Panadol means paracetamol. If your wiring guide or build sheet calls for Spec 55, the wire on this page is what it means. One trap worth knowing: some professionals use Spec 55 loosely to mean M22759/44, the silver plated 200 degrees C variant used in sustained high heat zones. For the vast majority of ECU harness circuits, M22759/32 at 150 degrees C is the correct wire provided the loom is routed away from direct exhaust heat. We stock M22759/32, tin plated.

Is M22759/32 the same as Spec 55 wire?

What is Tefzel wire?
Tefzel is the brand name for ETFE fluoropolymer insulation. M22759/32 uses cross linked modified ETFE over a tin plated copper conductor, rated 600 volts and 150 degrees C. It is thinner, lighter and far more heat, fuel and abrasion resistant than standard automotive wire, which is why it is the motorsport and aerospace standard.
What wire gauge should I use for sensors, injectors and power feeds?
Most sensor and ECU circuits use 22 AWG. Injectors and smart coils use 22 AWG. Solenoids and relay triggered outputs use 20 AWG. Switched feeds like fans and pumps use 14 to 16 AWG. Main power and PDM feeds use 12 to 14 AWG. Figures assume a single conductor in free air, derate for bundled harness runs.
Can I use TXL or GXL automotive wire instead of Tefzel?
TXL is acceptable for club level builds away from serious heat, but it is thicker, heavier and rated to 125 degrees C. For any professional build, sealed connector system or wiring routed near engine heat, use M22759/32 at 150 degrees C. Standard PVC wire is not suitable for motorsport at all.
When do I need shielded wire?
Use M27500 shielded Tefzel for noise sensitive signals: crank and cam triggers, knock sensors, wheel speed and CAN runs in noisy environments. We stock 1 to 6 core shielded Tefzel in 20 and 22 AWG.
