What is Raychem DR25?
Raychem DR25 is a specialist heatshrink tubing used to sleeve and protect motorsport wiring harnesses. It is a flexible modified elastomer qualified to AMS-DTL-23053/16, rated from -75 degrees C to 150 degrees C, flame retardant and resistant to aviation and diesel fuels, hydraulic fluid, lubricating oils and most chemicals found in an engine bay. DR25 has a 2:1 shrink ratio, meaning it shrinks to approximately half its supplied diameter when heat is applied.
DR25 begins shrinking at around 150 degrees C and reaches full recovery at approximately 175 degrees C. A temperature controlled heat gun gives the cleanest and most even result, especially on larger harness sections.

How Do I Choose the Right DR25 Size?
Measure the outside diameter of your wire bundle before sleeving. Choose the smallest DR25 size that slides over the bundle without forcing it. DR25 needs to go on easily before heat is applied. If you have to force it on, it is too small and the recovery will be poor.
As a general guide, 1/4 inch suits most ECU branch runs using Tefzel wire. 3/8 inch suits medium sub-harness runs. 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch suit main trunk sections depending on wire count and gauge. A common mistake is choosing DR25 based only on the final recovered size. The unrecovered size must also physically slide over branch points and any changes in harness diameter.
What Should I Use With Raychem DR25?
Tefzel wire carries the circuits inside the loom. DR25 protects the bundle from heat, abrasion, oils, fuels and engine bay conditions. Deutsch and Souriau connectors terminate sensors, actuators and branch points. Sumitomo W5DL, ATUM and moulded boots seal harness exits and connector transitions where strain relief is required.
