Buy Wire Splices in Australia

12Volt Motorsports stocks crimped wire splices for professional harness building: open barrel splices for inline joins and parallel splices for power splits and ground consolidation. These are the same splices we bury in our own customer looms. Stock is held in Melbourne and every order ships Australia wide.

Why Crimped Splices, Not Solder

A soldered joint wicks solder up the strands and creates a hard spot that fatigues and cracks under vibration. A crimped splice cold-forms the strands into one gas-tight joint that flexes with the wire. That is why every motorsport and aerospace wiring standard specifies crimped splices, and why we never solder a joint inside a harness. Crimp the splice, seal it under adhesive heatshrink, and it outlasts the car.

Open Barrel vs Parallel: Which One

Open barrel splices join wires end to end. The wings fold over the strands, so you can lay in multiple wires, inspect the crimp, and keep the join in line with the bundle. Use them for inline joins, repairs and joining runs mid-harness.

Parallel splices join wires side by side in a closed barrel, with every wire entering from the same end. The rating is the combined size of every wire in the barrel. Use them when one feed splits into smaller branches, for ground consolidation, and anywhere the wires approach from the same direction. Both types get sealed under adhesive heatshrink before the loom closes over them.

Where Splices Fit in Your Build

Splices live inside the bundle, not at the connector. Plan them at the harness design stage: a parallel splice turns one ECU power feed into smaller injector feeds, a ground splice consolidates sensor grounds into one return, and an open barrel splice joins a transition without a service loop of extra connectors. Crimp, slide Sumitomo W5DL adhesive heatshrink over the joint, then stagger your splices along the bundle so the harness stays round. Run the circuits in M22759/32 Tefzel wire and finish the covered sections in DR25.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy wire splices in Australia?

Right here. 12Volt Motorsports stocks open barrel and parallel wire splices in Melbourne and ships Australia wide. Most orders leave within one business day.

Should I crimp or solder a wire splice?

Crimp. Solder creates a hard spot that cracks under vibration, which is why motorsport and aerospace standards specify crimped splices. A properly crimped splice is a gas-tight joint that flexes with the wire.

What is the difference between an open barrel and a parallel splice?

An open barrel splice joins wires end to end for inline joins. A parallel splice joins wires side by side in a closed barrel, with all wires entering from the same end, which suits power splits and ground consolidation.

How do I pick the right splice size?

Add up the cross section of every wire going into the splice, then pick the splice whose rating covers that total. A splice that is too large will not crimp down to a gas-tight joint.

Do I need to seal a splice?

Yes. Every splice gets sealed under adhesive lined heatshrink such as Sumitomo W5DL before the loom closes over it. The adhesive blocks moisture and strain-relieves the joint.

What tool do I need to crimp these splices?

Open barrel splices crimp with a standard open barrel crimper. Parallel splices crimp with an indent or nest crimper sized to the barrel. See our wiring tools range.

How many splices come in a pack?

Parallel splices are sold in packs of 10. Pack sizes are listed on each product page.

Do you ship Australia wide?

Yes. All splices ship Australia wide from our Melbourne warehouse.
