One Bench, Two Halves
Harness work splits cleanly in two. The tools, crimpers and terminal removal picks, are the permanent half: buy them once, matched to your connector families, and they terminate every loom you ever build. The supplies, tapes, splices, sleeving and epoxy, are the consumable half, used up as each harness comes together. Both halves live in this collection, and the sub pages below narrow to one or the other.

Building your first proper loom? This is the kit that covers a full harness, the same six things we reach for on every build:
- Sargent 1028 CT crimp tool, the open barrel workhorse, 24-14 AWG
- Deutsch & Amphenol 4 indent crimper, solid contacts across DTM, DT and DTP
- TE open barrel splices, Small, the everyday splice, 600-3,000 CMA
- Polyimide tape 12mm, holds the twist as the bundle grows
- Tesa 51036 harness tape, the engine bay finish, rated to 150C
- ResinTech RT125 epoxy, bonds boots to DR25, seals to IP68
Add Tefzel wire, W5DL adhesive heatshrink and DR25 and the bench is complete.
Where It All Fits in a Harness Build
Strip, crimp, twist, splice, wrap, sleeve, seal. The crimpers terminate the contacts for your Deutsch, Souriau and OEM connectors. Polyimide tape holds each layer of the concentric twist. TE splices make the joins inside the bundle, sized by CMA and sealed under W5DL. Tesa cloth or DR25 finishes the outside, and RT125 epoxy bonds the boots so the whole thing stays sealed for the life of the car. What is the difference between the Wiring Tools and Wiring Supplies collections?
Tools are the crimpers and terminal removal tools that terminate connectors. Supplies are the consumables, tapes, splices, sleeving and epoxy, that get used up as the loom comes together. This page carries both, the sub collections narrow to one or the other.
What do I need to build my first proper harness?
A quality crimper matched to your connectors, a pack of open barrel splices sized by CMA, polyimide tape for the twist, a finishing tape or DR25 for the outside, and adhesive heatshrink for the joins. The starter bench list on this page covers it, and the resources library shows how each piece gets used.
Are cheap tools and tapes good enough for a race car?
The failure points of amateur harnesses are almost always cheap consumables and approximate crimps. Generic crimpers form approximate shapes that fail under vibration, and PVC tape unwinds with heat. Proper tools and OEM tapes cost little more and remove both failure modes.
Do you use these products yourselves?
Yes. Everything in this collection is stocked because it earns its place on our own harness bench. If we would not put it in a customer loom, we do not sell it.
Do the splices and tapes come in different sizes?
Yes. Splices run X-Small to Large covering 400 to 13,000 CMA in packs of 10 to 100, polyimide tape comes in 8, 12 and 16mm widths, and the Tesa tapes cover engine bay cloth and interior fleece.
